Top 12 Most Frequently Asked Questions about Boudoir Photography

The thought of a boudoir session can be scary. When talking to women about their session, I get asked all kinds of questions. I wanted to compile a list of my 12 most frequently asked questions to give you some insight on preparing for a boudoir session with me!

Do you share my images?

Our number 1 priority is making sure our clients are comfortable, especially with boudoir. It can be a life changing experience, but that also makes it nerve wracking! Sometimes, you are learning how to love your body and you aren’t quite ready to share the images with the world, or sometimes these photos are specifically for your significant other and aren’t for anyone else’s eyes. These are all great reasons for not sharing your photos, and it all depends on your personal preference. If there are photos I would like to share, I will ask your permission first and will only share what you are comfortable with.

Do I have to wear lingerie?

You definitely do not have to specifically wear lingerie. It depends on your personality and what you want to show through in your photos! There are a BUNCH of outfit ideas other than lacy little things.

Do you have payment plans?

I do offer pre-session payment plans! There is a retainer to book your session, and the balance is due 2 weeks before the date of your session. If you want more time to be able to pay off your session package, you can schedule your session for a few months out and pay it off in payments leading up to your session. I offer weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payment options.

Is hair and makeup included?

Hair and makeup is included in all of our boudoir packages. I think it’s really important for you to feel pampered and having your hair and makeup done is a great way to do that! The hair and makeup artist can help you complete your look, whether it’s “I just woke up like this” or full on glam! You can bring any ideas you want for your makeup and we can try to use it for inspiration.

Do you Photoshop my images?

I do edit you images for light, exposure, and color balance. I do NOT, however, edit anything out that is permanent (moles, stretch marks, freckles, etc). I think that can be damaging to have a boudoir session done and then edit out all of the parts of yourself that make you who you are! Part of the process of accepting yourself and seeing your beauty also means not photoshopping out parts of yourself you don’t like. If there are parts of yourself that you are learning to love and aren’t thrilled about, that is okay! I am skilled in posing and lighting to make you look your absolute best and bring out your shine! I also want you to remember, we are our own biggest critics - what seems small to me, or unnoticeable to me, might seem like a huge deal to you, so please share that with me.

Where should I buy outfits?

There are a few places to buy outfits from and it depends on what you are getting and the style of your session. Here is a list to choose from with different styles and sizing:

  • Victoria’s Secret

  • Adore Me

  • Torrid

  • Aerie

  • Foreveryourslingerie.ca

  • hipsandcurves.com

  • jasminestaceycollection.co

  • Honey Birdette

  • Savage X Fenty

  • Boutique shops near your location!

What type of print products do you have?

I offer a variety of luxury albums and prints! The 8x8 or the 10x10 is my favorite because of the customizable options they offer for the covers! I love the feel of picking up a physical item with your prints. It is so surreal seeing yourself like that! “My album from my boudoir experience started out as a wedding gift to my now husband, but I soon realized it was more of a gift for me! I find myself flipping through the pages more than he does! It is a daily reminder that my self-image has completely changed after having my boudoir session.” - Mary, on her experience at her boudoir session!

Do you offer digitals?

All of our packages include some sort of print product, but I do offer corresponding digital photos to the photos you select for your album in packages 2-4. There is also an A La Carte list that you can choose items from as add-ons to your package as well, or purchase separately. If you get digitals with your package, or opt to purchase them separately, they will come in a locked online gallery for you to download with a password. Two of the packages also come with a custom USB with your images.

I’m freaking out! How can I calm my nerves?

Nerves are all part of the experience! I always say that it would probably be weird if you WEREN’T nervous. The nervousness in the beginning of your session make your moment of “WOW” when seeing your photos for the first time so much better!

How many outfits should I bring?

This will depend on your package. Package 1 is just 1 outfit, but packages 2 and 3 allow for 2-3 outfit changes, and package 4 is 3-4 outfit changes. And don’t forget - sheets are always an option ;)

Should I get to my session early?

You should always plan on getting to your session about 10 minutes early so we can talk about your outfits, colors, and make a plan for hair and makeup!

Where is your studio located?

Right now I am renting studio space at Brick Street Studio in Ionia, MI! However, in the near future, I will have a new studio on our private property and will update you with a new blog once that project starts :)
